North Coast Surf Beaches
Must do
Highlights
North Coast iconic beaches
There are some nsw beaches along the North Coast that stand out as having iconic status. Byron Bay, Ballina, Lennox Head and Yamba-Angourie in northern NSW are a few where the 1960s surfing counter-culture took hold, and where it’s lived and breathed ever since.
Best North Coast beaches
Whether it’s the vibe you’re after, great coffee and food, stunning coastal scenery or a beach that’s perfect for a surf lesson, you’re bound to find it at one of the many beaches along the North Coast of NSW.
Highlights of a surfing holiday here could include a visit to Byron Bay to get a taste of its famous beach culture and top surfing conditions or Lennox Head to see one of Australia’s iconic waves, consistently ranked among the country’s top 10. Beaches from Lennox to Ballina are known as the “Magic Miles” while the coast between Newcastle’s Merewether and Bar Beach is known as “the Stretch” with a variety of consistent waves.
There is an amazing 43 km of coast between Seal Rocks and Forster for intrepid surfers to explore with pretty Boomerang Beach and Bluey’s Beach at Pacific Palms well worth a detour.
Along this magical coast north, Newcastle, Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour are major centres with easy access to surf lessons, good accommodation and plenty of fun. Like most things about World Heritage-listed Lord Howe Island, its beaches are in a class of their own - and it's just off the North Coast of NSW. Don't miss Neds Beach, Lagoon Beach and Old Settlement Beach.
