Aboriginal culture
Must do
The roots of Australia's Aboriginal culture stretch back many thousands of years - exploring the connection is a potent source of wonder for visitors.
Aboriginal art and culture in NSW
Aboriginal Australians are custodians of the oldest living culture stretching over 60,000 years. At various locations in NSW, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about Aboriginal culture through art, tours and other cultural activities.
Harry Nanya Outback Tours is an Aboriginal owned and operated tour operator that takes you into a remarkable corner of NSW that’s a World Heritage national park. At Mutawintji National Park in Outback NSW, you’ll see astonishing ancient rock art on a tour with Mutawintji Eco Tours. More Aboriginal tours are available in the Snowy Mountains with Wiradguri Wonders and in the Warrumbungle National Park with Tara Cave Walk and the Sundancin' Tour.
Authentic Aboriginal art is widely available at art galleries in Sydney and galleries in NSW. Just two of the best are the Armidale and Region Aboriginal Cultural Centre and Keeping Place and Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. At Laddie Timbery’s Aboriginal Art and Crafts in Huskisson, you can buy from a wide range of art and artefacts; Euraba Paper Company in northern NSW sells online beautiful works on paper by Aboriginal artists who also make their own paper; at Mehi Murri Art Studio in Moree you can buy direct from student artists
