Adventure and sport
NSW beaches are more accessible than any other surf beach in Australia. And learning to surf is easy with accredited surf schools up and down the coast.
Surfing in NSWNew South Wales has some of the best, and most accessible, surf beaches in Australia; from Eden to Bondi Beach, to Byron Bay and beyond. Serious surfers can head to beaches in national parks, or discover famed beach breaks in Sydney and along the north coast and south coast.
There are seven national surfing reserves along the coast of NSW: Angourie, near Yamba; Crescent Head, north of Port Macquarie; Lennox, near Ballina; Maroubra and Cronulla in southern Sydney; Killalea, near Shellharbour; and Manly and North Narrabeen on Sydney’s northern coast.
The North Coast of New South Wales features some of the best surfing beaches in Australia. White, long sandy stretches emphasised by the bluest, transparent water highlight the naturally beautiful coast and the many amazing breaks within it.
From Terrigal to the Tweed, the North Coast is home to the majority of the State's surfers and breaks. Featuring Byron Bay and other internationally renowned breaks, the North Coast of New South Wales is steeped in Australian surf culture, history and is a leader in the heady surfing revolution of years gone past.
Meanwhile stretching from Port Kembla (near Wollongong) to Eden, the South Coast offers unmatched beauty highlighted by ideal surf breaks for beginners and some raw, powerful waves for the advanced surfer. Walking to a more relaxed beat than their city cousins, the South Coast of New South Wales provides the perfect surfing landscape. Seeing long, white sandy beaches adorning the pristine coastline, the South Coast has proven to be the perfect playground for many of Australia's finest surfing exports.
