Port Stephens

Port Stephens in a natural harbour located about 45 km north of Newcastle, and covers about 134 square km. The area is renowned for its beaches, boasting more than 20 golden sandy beaches. Whale and dolphin watching, surfing, windsurfing, swimming, fishing and boating are the main activities that draw holidaymakers to the area.

Nelson Bay is the main resort area of Port Stephens and one of the most popular places to stay, and also has some great spots to grab a bite. Nearby Stockton Sand Dunes, just ten minutes drive from Port Stephens, is another must-visit, with epic dunes stretching for more than 30 km all the way to the northern outskirts of Newcastle. During whale migration season, you can go whale watching on a cruise or climb to the top of Tomaree lookout to see if you can spot a whale. The area is also home to more than 150 bottlenose dolphins.
