Friday 03 June 2016 to Monday 06 June 2016
The Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival is unique amongst Australian writers festivals, in that it stages events that utilise the region's rich natural environment. Imaginative special events celebrate the magnificent natural environs of the Bellinger River and Dorrigo World Heritage rainforest. The festival also honours and celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the region's Gumbaynggirr people, offering you the opportunity to learn some of their language, songs, poems and stories.
The program focuses exclusively on Australian writers to showcase the diversity of talent in this country. It also includes the ever popular Poetry Slam, Friday night Tasting Session of bite-sized offerings of the coming weekend's major highlights, and the exclusive opportunity to board a canoe and Paddle with a Poet down the beautiful Bellinger River.
Considered to be the best new writers festival in Australia, it is well loved by audiences.
