Markets in NSW

Shopping at a local market is always fun, especially in regional NSW. You could find yourself chatting to local growers or artisans, nibbling on some delectable homemade goodies or snapping up a second-hand bargain.

Katoomba, Leura, Blackheath and Falconbridge in the Blue Mountains are a good place to start; the region's events calendar is bursting with markets all year round. Meet the locals in these mountain towns while you browse at a range of village fairs, monthly growers' markets and specialty craft and antiques bazaars.

NSW's country regions are also famous for their markets. Browse the twice-monthly stalls in Gunning near Goulburn for a freshly made jam or homemade gifts – or opt to follow the garage trail sale held each May by residents of the Upper Lachlan Shire.

Arts and crafts, bric-a-brac, second-hand goods, pottery and more can all be found at the many flea and craft markets around Jervis Bay and The Shoalhaven, including in Milton, Huskisson, Mollymook and Nowra. Antiquing is particularly popular around Berry and Kangaroo Valley so keep your eye out for collectable fairs in the region, too.

Local markets are an institution for the alternative communities around Nimbin, Lismore, Bangalow and Byron Bay, too. Most of the big towns hold monthly markets where you can wander, nibble a snack from a food van, browse a range of art, clothing and second-hand goods, and maybe even enjoy a massage. This region is also rich in local produce so a visit to a farmers market is also a must.

If you are in the City, try out the wide range of markets in Sydney, from Paddington, Bondi, Glebe and The Rocks to name a few.
