Aussies love a good festival, and NSW's events calendar lures lots of out-of-towners, too. That's because our festivals are fun, they often revolve around food or music – and often they're completely unique. Gnome convention, anyone?
Wine may be the Hunter Valley's calling card, but you'll also find flower festivals, jazz festivals; historic movie nights and a heap of food festivals (even one around boutique beer for the non-wine drinkers).
If you're heading up to the Blue Mountains, there are walking festivals, flower festivals, folk, roots and blues music, wine fairs and, yes, that gnome convention!
Clear night skies are a given in Country NSW, so it's no secret there's a popular astronomy festival here. There are also open days for historic buildings, street theatre, busker and kite festivals and cool climate wine weeks to enjoy.
Don't forget the Snowy Mountains, the region's events include musters, bush poetry and high country art. There are also antique fairs, Easter events and a music festival which coincides with the launch of the winter ski season.
There's always something happening on NSW's North Coast, too – from nautical themed markets and guided walks to food trail tours. In Port Stephens, you'll find festivals created around everything from food and wine to whale watching.
Does chilli or curry float your boat? There are festivals devoted to both in Coffs Harbour! And of course, Byron Bay further north is a festival-goer's dream, with events on all year round covering everything from surfing to blues music.
