Eating out in Newtown
Got a few hours to spare on this bohemian inner west strip? Sip a bowl latte and watch the world go by, enjoy a cocktail at a funky bar or flip a coin over which restaurant to go for dinner, and you'll scratch the surface of one of Sydney's greatest restaurant eat streets.
Colourful and unconventional, Newtown has inner-city attractions that range from restaurants and bars, to theatres and clubs. Specialist shops include vintage fashion and music stores, bookshops, antique stores, hairdressing salons and homeware shops.
More than 100 restaurants and cafés offering a range of ethnic cuisines can be found along King Street and nearby Enmore and Erskineville. Quirky and cool, shopping in Enmore Road and south King Street offer buttons, beads, tiles, tribal gifts, gothic garments and second-hand furniture.
Check out the heritage cemetery at St Stephen's Anglican Church before heading off to an avant-garde performance at the King Street Theatre or see some of the best musicians and comedians at The Emore Theatre.
