Beautiful beaches in Wollongong
Unwind and relax on gorgeous beaches in the Wollongong region, just south of Sydney on the marvellous Grand Pacific Drive touring route. You can take a scenic train too from Sydney and alight at railway stations for a short walk to soft sands, rolling waves, rock pools and glorious ocean views.
In Stanwell Park, roll out your towel on the fine white sands of Stanwell Park Beach and gaze up at hang-gliders and paragliders performing graceful flying manoeuvres. The large reserve on the edge of the beach is ideal for family picnics with barbecue facilities, a kiosk and a children’s playground.
You’ll discover more wonderful beaches. Pitch a tent beachside at Coledale Beach and swim in two large rock pools at Austinmer Beach. Just south in Thirroul is Thirroul Beach, backed by a lovely park with a children’s play area. In Bulli, enjoy pretty picnic areas at Bulli Beach and Sandon Point Beach.
North Wollongong Beach and Wollongong City Beach are the most popular beaches. Both beaches are next to reserves with picnic areas. Farther south is Windang Beach, near Shellharbour and Lake Illawarra, a large saltwater lake popular for sailing, waterskiing, kayaking and other water sports.
