The charming country town of Bega is located inland from the Sapphire Coast on the Brogo and Bega rivers. The name Bega is synonymous with cheese. The Bega Cheese Heritage Centre, where visitors can try the local cheddar and see how cheese is made, is one of the region’s main attractions. Bega is surrounded by national parks and is considered the rural centre of the Sapphire Coast region. It’s a popular location for a country getaway, and its proximity to the coast makes it a good base for a seaside holiday as well.

Merimbula is about a 30km drive from Bega, and is probably the most well-known of the towns on the Sapphire Coast. Merimbula accommodation is a great option if you want to stay by the sea, and its location means you can take day trips to the region’s nearby towns and national parks. There are a large number of self-contained accommodation options available in Merimbula including cabins, holiday units and holiday houses.
