Arts, culture, history and heritage in Adelong
Adelong is a small country town to the north-west of the Snowy Mountains. It's on the picturesque Adelong River with surrounding rugged scenery.
About Adelong
Adelong is a charming and historic settlement, off the Hume Highway on the way to Tumut. With its quaint historic farmhouses and buildings, the place recalls times gone by. It's at its prettiest in autumn and spring.
Europeans settled in the area from the 1840s, but from 1853 significant numbers of miners and prospectors were attracted by the gold rush. By 1860 there were more than 3,000 people in the town and this growth continued through the 1870s. Gold mining declined in the 1940s. Nearby, Batlow and Talbingo are worth a visit.
