During snow season, which runs from from June to October, the Snowy Mountains' slopes offer some of the best terrain park experiences in the country. Have a go at ski jumps and aerial tricks. With terrain to suit all skill sets, whether you’re a novice or seasoned snowboarder or skier.
Terrain Parks in the Snowy Mountains
Snow season runs from the June long weekend to the October long weekend each year, with peak season being late July and August. There can be good snowfall as early as April, and even as late as December, and the ski resorts have extensive snowmaking facilities to ensure snow riding all season. During snow season, enjoy a wide variety of features and experiences to practise your skills and help perfect your tricks in the Snowy Mountains.
Perisher offers three terrain parks, designed to suit skiers and boarders of all levels. Beginners should check out Yabby Flat terrain park, it has box and rail features ideal for learning the basics and gaining confidence. For intermediate skiers and boarders, Leichhardt terrain park has a good range of boxes, rails and jumps of up to 30 feet. For those with more advanced skills, try the PlayStation Slopestyle terrain park, with massive jumps and a quarter pipe.
Thredbo offers four different terrain parks, with something for all levels. Wombat World is the ideal place to introduce kids to freestyle and small jumps, while Cruiser Park featuring dance floor boxes, flat boxes, jumps and table tops is great for beginners. The new look Super Park is great for intermediate-level skiers and boarders, and features a sequence of jumps ranging from four to six metres. For a real adrenaline rush, advanced riders can hit Antons Park, with jumps of up to 40 feet. There’s also a mini terrain park at nearby Mount Selwyn designed for beginners.
The ski slopes at night can be just as breathtaking as during the day. Most Snowy Mountains resorts offer night skiing activities for skiers of all ages, or those keen to soak up the night-time atmosphere. Night skiing usually runs from 6-9 pm.
