Tareena Old Post Office Station is situated on Salt Creek close to the South Australian border and was once on the main transport route as an overnight stop for the Cobb and Co stage coach run from Sydney to Adelaide. The Old Post Office as it was known, was built in 1882 and was surrounded by a small settlement or township.

The property is located at the head of the famous Chowilla Flood Plains.

The property has been nominated for heritage listing by the Wentworth Council.
