Maritime Centre Newcastle - Newcastle
After more than two centuries of operation, the Port of Newcastle remains a globally recognised hub.
Explore the rich maritime history of Newcastle and the Hunter River, and learn about the Port's importance to the development of Australia from the early days of European settlement to the present time.
Since 1972, the Newcastle Maritime Museum has collected interesting artefacts, while at historic Fort Scratchley. Now relocated in the beautifully restored heritage harbour front wharf building, this innovative, world-class Maritime Centre with the port as its backdrop, will transport you via a series of interactive exhibits into the story of this harbour and the people and events associated with it. Meanwhile, outside on the water the working life of this dynamic port continues.
