Newcastle has an emerging food scene that makes it an appealing spot to indulge in quality food and wine. Now with four, one-hatted restaurants, Newcastle has some serious food credentials - Bacchus, Subo, Restaurant Deux and Restaurant Mason.

A thriving cultural scene and bustling eat streets have helped Newcastle become an exciting regional food destination. The city has four distinctive dining neighbourhoods offering plenty of opportunities for eating out in style.

Right on the harbour at Honeysuckle wharf, The Boardwalk is the place to head for sophisticated dining and opulent bars with water views. Along Beaumont Street, Hamilton,you'll find a lively pub scene and sidewalk cafes that have a strong mediterranean focus. Darby Street in Cooks Hill has a relaxed bohemian style with cafes and galleries to browse while The Junction has a smattering of restaurants.

Provedores that are well worth visiting include Fishermen's Wharf Seafoods at the Co-op, Wicked Chocolates and PeaBerry Ground Coffee. At Sunday's Newcastle City Farmers Markets you can stock up on fresh, local produce. And don't forget... the Hunter Valley vineyards are just over an hour away.
