The Phantom Art Show which opens at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery on Friday March 10 is an exhibition featuring many leading Australian artists who were influenced by Phantom comics in their youth and there is still a fascination with this mysterious hero amongst some mature artists. The creators of the Phantom Art Show, artists Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch, have given their colleagues the opportunity to show their interpretations of the Phantom.
The result is a spectacular art show featuring a large number of totally different Phantoms engaged in a wide variety of activities. There are contributions from well-known artists like – Reg Mombassa, Euan MacLeod, Charles Blackman, Michael Leunig, Dick Frizzell, Peter Kingston, Dietmar Lederwasch and Martin Sharp to name a few.
While this exhibition has been seen in some of Regional Australia’s leading art galleries, none of them have done anything like the show the Bunker Cartoon Gallery has planned. The Bunker will be transformed into the Phantom’s mythical skull cave with a huge cave painting covering the entrance to the Bunker and the interior being turned into a dark, sinister cave.
The show runs from March 10 to May 12.
