Ballina is located on the NSW North Coast, at the convergence of Richmond River and North Creek, near the iconic seaside town of Byron Bay. Outdoor adventurers can spend hours exploring the hiking trails and lookouts of Broadwater National Park and Bundjalong National Park are both nearby, and it’s also an ideal spot for whale watching from May to November. Nearby Lennox Head is considered one of the best spots for surfing in the state, and the beautiful surrounding beaches are also very beautiful.
Ballina has a year-round calendar of exciting events to keep you entertained. There are monthly and weekly markets, and –– as the home of The Big Prawn –– the annual Ballina Prawn Festival, which includes parades, markets, fireworks and, of course, lots of delicious prawns. In July, the three-day Ballina Food Festival showcases the North Coast’s best local food and wine, and features fabulous dinners, food markets, and even a gourmet bus tour.
