The architect-designed Lord Howe Island Museum opened in 2002. The museum has a range of innovative displays on the island’s World Heritage environment, community and history going back to 1788.
There is also a learning and scientific centre holding valuable archives, photographs and records with a reading/research room with computer facilities, photocopying and internet access.
