For a relaxing family holiday, in one of the state’s newest parks, load up the trailer and head to Yanga National Park within Murrumbidgee Valley National Park. With its vast riverine wetlands, just east of Balranald, and on the shores of Yanga Lake, Regatta Beach picnic area is a great spot for fishing, boating, swimming and birdwatching.

With large shady areas and sandy beaches, the calm lakeside spot provides great swimming and paddling opportunities for the kids, and is a popular spot with local boating enthusiasts. Launch the boat or kayak and explore the vast waterways, or try your hand at fishing.

If you’re feeling leisurely, sit back under the ancient river gums and enjoy watching the migratory waterbirds including pelicans, egrets and herons.

With so much to do on and around the water, you might be tempted to stay a while in the Riverina area. Spend a couple of nights at Mamanga campground and explore the unique natural and cultural heritage of the river country, including Yanga Homestead precinct.
