Old Cheese Factory - Braidwood
Originally settled by Irish gold prospectors, Reidsdale is known locally as Irish corner. Settlers moved from diggings to farm and a substantial dairy industry blossomed. The Old Cheese Factory produced some of Australia's finest cheddar between 1927 and 1957 with milk supplied by thirteen Irish Catholic families.
In 2007 the Watkins-Sully family renovated the old factory to house a rural enterprise centre that facilitates and champions local production. Today the only cheese made at the factory is during the popular cheese making workshops, one of many workshops, talks and events hosted at The Old Cheese Factory.
There is a cellar door style shop that stocks a range of unique regional produce made on-site. Visitors can also sample rare county wines and meads when in season.
Patrons can enjoy a regionally inspired lunch made from the best seasonal ingredients. Or just enjoy a coffee in a beautiful rural setting.
