Cementa is a biennial contemporary arts festival that takes place in the post industrial town of Kandos. This tiny regional town is located on the side of Coombermelon Mountain between Lithgow and Mudgee in Central West NSW. The region provides the stunning backdrop to which invited artists make, exhibit and perform work relating to the social, historical, or environmental context of Kandos and its surrounds.
Cementa takes place in April and offers a unique festival experience of a free four-day event showcasing independent and experimental arts. Performance, sound, cabaret, interactive and electronic arts, video, installation, photography, painting and ceramics will all be presented at multiple venues across town.
Artworks will pop up in Kandos' shopfronts, cafes, on the streets, the local museum and nursery, in parks, garages, cars, backyards, the tennis courts, the pub, a golf club, community halls, church yards and for the first time beyond to Ganguddy, Dunns Swamp camping grounds, a World Heritage natural arena .
Cementa is a celebration of contemporary art in Australia and of the small town that hosts it. Plan your trip well in advance and take the opportunity to stay over and visit the region of Kandos, Rylstone and Mudgee.
