Family activities in Swan Hill
A groundbreaking steamship voyage from the mouth of the Murray to Swan Hill in 1853 paved the way for the start of the inland river trade. Swan Hill became the first major inland port. Go back in time at the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement.
About Swan Hill
This historic riverboat town is set on the banks of the Murray River, in Victoria. Houseboats and paddle boats navigate the river, while swimming, fishing and riverside walks are popular. Don't miss a photo with the Giant Murray Cod, a colourful, 11-m long and 6-m wide "big thing".
Learn about the town's colourful past at Swan Hill Pioneer Museum, an open-air historical museum and reconstruction of a 19th-century river port town. Take in the beautiful riverside surroundings with a game of golf or enjoy a picnic or riverside walk in one of the many reserves and parks. Historic homesteads, numerous wineries and daily river cruises are Swan Hill highlights.
