Arts, culture and heritage in Uralla
Uralla offers a fascinating insight into the gold rush days of the 1850s. Stretch your legs on the Uralla Heritage Walk, which has 30 historic buildings along the route.
About Uralla
Set in hilly granite country on the NSW Northern Tablelands, Uralla is at its most striking in autumn. The town is famous for its connection with the bushranger Fred Ward, alias Captain Thunderbolt, who was killed near here in 1870. You can visit Thunderbolt's Grave in the local cemetery, or try your luck at searching for gold in, what was once, gold country.
Other things to do around Uralla Armidale include browsing through its antique shops and art galleries or visiting the spectacular Aboriginal rock art site at Mount Yarrowyck Nature Reserve.
