New England Regional Art Museum - Armidale
Locally funded and managed, the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM), houses one of the best collections of Australian Art outside a capital city.
Works are largely from the Howard Hinton Collection, which includes works by early Australian artists, particularly Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton, covering the period from the 1880s to the 1940s. The Chandler Coventry Collection has more than 250 works by Sydney artists of the 1960s including Brett Whiteley.
The NERAM Collections are far too extensive to be granted permanent hanging space. In addition to viewing the museum's permanent and temporary exhibitions, you can book a tour to see works kept in the storerooms. The tour runs every Wednesday.
The Museum Shop has a colourful and dynamic display of works by Australian craftspeople and stocks a diverse range of objects from jewellery, glass and ceramics.
