Mungabareena and Water Works - Albury
Mungabareena Reserve is an important cultural reserve that has significance to many Aboriginal tribes in this region. It is where Aboriginal peoples from different tribes meet to trade before continuing towards Mount Bogong to hunt for Bogong moths. The Ngan Girra Festival is held here every November.
The Waterworks area is further along from Mungabareena, and is also a popular spot for recreation on the Murray at Albury. There are many other recreational areas along the banks of the Murray and chances are you'll find your own pristine river beach to enjoy. Wildlife abounds from this life giving water source - you could spot a platypus scrabbling for yabbies in the shallows near the river bank, watch as wood ducks wade through the water or see a rainbow bee-eater perform aerial feats in the hunt for its insect dinner! Picnic tables are also available.
