Beaches & fishing

The beautiful Toowoon Bay Beach is popular for swimming, surfing, snorkelling and fishing, with rocky reefs near both ends. It’s a patrolled beach that curves along the coast for about 700m. Pretty Blue Bay Beach is immediately north and enchanting Little Bay Beach sits to the south, connected by a point where gentle waves roll onto the soft sandy shoreline.

Recreational fishing is popular in Toowoon Bay. Cast a line from your beach chair for bream and whiting or bait your hooks near the rocky reefs for blackfish and mulloway. There are great beach and rock fishing locations in the northern and southern sections of nearby Wyrrabalong National Park, too. Cycling, picnic spots & walking tracks

Explore the leisurely bicycle path that hugs the foreshore of Tuggerah Lake, a shallow waterway popular for water sports such as sailing, waterskiing, fishing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. The estuary is also an important habitat for birds, including sharp-tailed sandpipers, black swans and pelicans.

Swadling Park is a charming picnic spot with barbecue facilities and a playground, located at the rear of Toowoon Bay Beach. Another pretty picnic spot is Long Jetty Foreshore Reserve, home to the iconic Long Jetty. You’ll also find picnic spots along the 7.6km Coast to Lake Scenic Walk, as well as ocean baths, a lookout, cafés and galleries.

Getting there & where to stay

On a peninsula just south of The Entrance, Toowoon Bay is a 1hr 30min drive north from Sydney and 70min south of Newcastle. You can also take a train from Sydney to Gosford or Tuggerah stations and connect by bus – the whole journey takes just under three hours. Accommodation options include holiday parks, beach houses, boutique hotels and the luxurious Kims Beachside Retreat.
