About Oberon

Oberon is the highest town in the Blue Mountains region and some 30 km from the world-renowned Jenolan Caves. Oberon supports a strong rural community, producing lamb, beef cattle and a wide range of vegetables. It's particularly delightful in spring, when the appearance of bulbs and colourful wildflowers joyfully greet the season.

Whether you're a backpacker, a couple looking for a romantic getaway, or a family on holiday, Oberon has a range of accommodation to suit your lifestyle and budget.

Natural wonders abound in and around Oberon. You'll find trout fishing, bushwalking, and magnificent national parks, including Blue Mountains National Park and Kanangra-Boyd National Park. At Kanangra-Boyd, you can enjoy a range of things to do, including swimming and camping along the Boyd River, fishing, and, of course, bushwalking.

The traditional owners of the land where Oberon now stands are the Wiradjuri people. Settlement commenced along the Fish River after the discovery of gold in 1823. The town was first known as Bullock Flat, but when it was proclaimed a village, it became Oberon
