Family day trips from Sydney

Picnic in the Blue Mountains

For $2.50 per person, your family can enjoy a fun day out with unlimited travel on Sydney's buses, trains, ferries and light rail every Sunday. Popular destinations close to Sydney on the Family Funday Sunday ticket includes the Blue Mountains towns of Wentworth Falls, Leura, Katoomba and Blackheath.

The Blue Mountains is another easy day-trip destination by public transport. The Intercity train line takes you in comfort to the Blue Mountains with regular services departing from Central Station to Wentworth Falls, Leura, Katoomba, Medlow Bath, Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Bell, Zig Zag and Lithgow.

From Katoomba, just board the 'get on, get off' Explorer Bus to see the main sights. You can buy your Blue Mountains ExplorerLink ticket on board the red double decker that departs Katoomba Station regularly from 9.45am. In Sydney you can buy a combined Rail / Bus ticket from any CityRail station. Visit the Three Sisters at Echo Point and enjoy the thrill of the vertical railway and cable car rides at Scenic World Blue Mountains. At Leura you can stock up on fudge, chocolates, Hershey bars and strawberry logs at the famous Candy Store.

When you board the train in Sydney, ask to stop at the Zig Zag Railway, a full gauge operating tourist railway built in the 1860s, complete with heritage trains. It’s just 30 minutes further along the train route from Katoomba.
