Sydney is one of the few cities in the world that has wine-growing regions on its doorstep. Just two hours north-west of the city is the famed Hunter region. This is the oldest continuously planted region in Australia, producing acclaimed semillon, chardonnay and shiraz.

Just one hour from Sydney is the Hawkesbury Nepean region. Its proximity, historic villages and pretty wineries combine to make it a perfect day trip from the city centre.

The Southern Highlands is a more recent producer, well suited to producing delicious cool-climate wines.

Excellent cellar doors, fine restaurants and cafes, historic attractions and quality accommodation ensure these regions are appealing to wine-lovers as well as tourists.
