Hello Winter

G’day, can you believe it? Winter has rolled around again!

Those thrifty Weekender readers will already know that it’s a great season to get out and explore the state. Why? I’ll let you in on the secret. Tourist park owners, hoteliers and tourism operators everywhere are offering winter discounts to get you guys on the road. And, let me add, it’s also the time to travel if you don’t like the crazy crowds.

But if you love a crazy crowd, make sure you set sail for this year’s Sydney International Boat Show which drops anchor at Darling Harbour from 31st July - 5th August 2008. This is Australia’s premier boating show and the temporary marina will berth 300 boats with a ‘sea’ value of around 300 million dollars. The marina is for dreaming, boat lovers on a budget need to head inside to the Exhibition Centre where all 6 halls are taken up with every gadget and runabout on the water.

In this issue, we fly north to escape the cold. Check out our Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour feature. This part of the coast has some of the mildest temperatures all year round. Because of our recent Sydney Weekender TV Specials in the area, the whole team has got the coast wired. So if you’re pulling into a caravan park or you want to go five-star; you’re a couple or a family; there’s a ‘must-read’ here for you.  Our regular features are packed full of info and tasty treats for winter: we are eating out North of The Bridge – I had fun researching that one; Let’s Play has the kids covered for the school holidays; and save a buck staying around town with our Hot Deals.

We had five subscription prize winners from our Autumn edition – Gai Sattler from Harrington Park, Kim Archibald from Panania, Kylie Thompson from Mount Annan, Tracey Hicks from Kotara, Annette Au from Mount Riverview and Neil Cartland from Terrigal. They will all be jumping for joy, literally, as they won a tandem skydive for two with the guys from Skydive the Beach Sydney. This issue’s subscription prize is a little more down to earth but still adrenaline-soaked. Subscribe to Sydney Weekender for 1 year, that gets you 4 issues, and you’ll automatically go into the draw to win your very own Reduced Mini Grand Prix at Eastern Creek Karts for you and 19 of your mates valued at $2,800. Michael Schumacher, look out!

This is our 17th issue of the Sydney Weekender Magazine and if you guys have kept all of your back issues, by now you should all be experts on what to do, where to go, where to eat and how to save some bucks in our great state. But don’t worry, there’s always a new gem to uncover, a new town to explore, and a new delicacy to savour. I look forward to bringing you all of that and more in future issues and every Saturday at 5.30pm on Seven. We love to hear all your ideas and suggestions too. You can drop me a line at sydneyweekendertv@gmail.com

Until the next issue, may you find yourself in front of a crackling log fire surrounded by your loved ones.
