Mike is hits the track at Eastern Creek ahead of next week’s V8 Supercars…with one of the strongest teams on the V8 Supercars’ grid – the Dick Johnson Racing Team.
Eastern Creek is one of only two truly international racing circuits in Australia and is located only 45 minutes from the Sydney CBD near Blacktown. At 3.9 km’s long and with a mix of slow, medium and high speed corners, it is both challenging and enjoyable to ride over and over again.

In terms of lap times, a good road driver in a sport oriented car will most likely be just below the 2 minutes per lap mark. The lap record for a car is 1m31.655s.
A Track Day is an event where you can drive your own car through a controlled series of corners over and over at a speed you feel comfortable, without needing to be concerned with the countless potential hazards you experience in an uncontrolled environment such as public roads. It is not a race day or even a race practice day. Ride Days were created so you can see what you and your car are capable of in the safest possible environment.
Whether you’ve never driven on a track before or consider yourself a seasoned racing driver, these days are for you. As long as your car is roadworthy and has a passenger seat it can be driven on the track and these days are open to all.
Whilst the days are strictly non-competitive with no timing or racing, you will get ample time to learn, build and improve your driving skills with the help of professional instructors, who are experienced in coaching people of all experience levels.

Drivers will be split into three groups, dependent on experience and ability, with each group having their own 20 minute session of open track time each hour. There will never be more than 25 cars on the track in one session however those who take their driving a little more seriously can arrange a private session.
The day commences at 8:30am with sign on and a safety and theory brief, then circuit activity at 9am sharp. All drivers are taken on a sighting drive of the circuit, highlighting driving lines, apexes and safety.

Professional instructors will be available throughout the day to answer your questions and provide personal in-car tuition. When your group is not on the track you are not neglected, instructors conduct seminars to help you improve your driving and to answer your questions.
If you don’t have a helmet, Eastern Creek Track Days can kit you out with one. All entrants must wear a helmet. Neck to Wrist to Ankle non-flammable clothing (i.e. Cotton or wool) and covered shoes are required.
A photographer is at all events to record your moment of glory…or moment of embarrassment…whichever the case may be. Tea, coffee & water are provided free of charge throughout the day. An air-conditioned VIP suite is available for riders to relax in between sessions.
Driving behaviour
Just as Eastern Creek Track Days are not designed for drivers searching for the fastest lap time, they are also not designed for drivers to develop their stunting skills. Therefore, no burnouts, or any other such behaviour will be tolerated.
Drivers at all times need to drive within their limits and those of the track and that of their car. It’s your decision if you drive in part or all of the day, taking into account your driving ability, the weather conditions and condition of your equipment and car.
Overtaking can be done on the main straight or if the car in front indicates for you to do so by signalling with their arm out of their window and the driver feels secure in doing so.
Lap timing is not allowed during an Eastern Creek Track Day. The reason for this has more to do with insurances and event structure rather than it being a comment on whether or not lap timing is beneficial or detrimental to the safety of the day.
Vehicles must be in roadworthy/trackworthy condition. Cars need to be road registered.
The only flag used is a chequered one to indicate the end of a session.
There are lights on the track which only have one signal which is used to stop the session if there is any issue on the track.
