Tobruk Sheep Station

Reporter: Alex Cullen

Tobruk Sheep Station is the most beautiful and most authentic rural and outback experience in the Sydney region. It’s an exciting, fun and interactive farm experience for all ages.

Set on over 150 acres (70 hectares) on a high plateau above the Hawkesbury River, Tobruk is surrounded by State Forests and bushland, with amazing views to the Blue Mountains. You will feel a thousand miles from anywhere but in reality you’re only 70 minutes from Sydney (10 mins short of Wisemans Ferry).

Tobruk is ideally suited for families through to corporate groups, seniors groups, international tourists and incentives who are looking for something unique or wanting to get out of the city and experience rural and outback Australia for the day.

Everything at Tobruk is the real deal and the warm and friendly staff are dedicated to showing all their guests what it is that makes Australia a special country – the charm of the rustic buildings, blacksmiths shop and farm machinery, the warmth of the open campfire in Drovers Camp with billy tea and baking damper, the hearty country meals, the friendly animals and the beautiful sunsets high above the Hawkesbury River and Blue Mountains.

The philosophy at Tobruk Sheep Station is to provide a clean, safe, authentic environment that all guests can enjoy, so get out of the city and come and enjoy country hospitality and outback authenticity at its best.

Tobruk is 100% family owned and operated and the owners, stockmen and staff will welcome you on arrival.

The day program run on weekends is exciting, entertaining, educational and encourages participation, no matter what your age. The program goes from 10:30am – 3pm and includes a full day of working the land. Until recently, this was only open to tour groups but now the public is free to come and try it out too.

The day program includes a sumptuous, country style, home cooked meal made with the freshest ingredients and produce, sourced locally on a daily basis. The portions sizes are plentiful and range from sausage and hamburger meals through to T-bone and scotch fillet steaks with salads, vegetables, dessert, tea, coffee and traditional homemade ANZAC biscuits. Vegetarian, fish and halal meals can be supplied with prior notice.

The Tobruk Camp Experience

Kids will enjoy this amazing property with the peaceful setting, the beautiful scenery and plentiful country home cooked meals. They’ll get to experience the life of a bushman and stockman first hand as they move from activity to activity under the watchful eye of experts.

Forget about TV’s, Playstations, mobile phones and the internet, this camp will see them spend 99% of their time outdoors and in the country fresh air. And when the sun sets over the Blue Mountains each day, they get to sit around a campfire reflecting on what they have learnt that day and they’ll be treated to an old bush yarn, a sing-a-long or some bush poetry.

By the end of the week, they will be the ones providing the entertainment. Mums & dads are invited on the sheep station for the day to see their kids try out their new sheep mustering and cooking skills, take home their craft, and be awarded with a Jackeroo certificate for all their hard work.

After a great week, they’ll have fantastic memories of a true Australian station way of life, a new found appreciation for farm life and a host of practical skills to call upon in the future.
