The best of Sydney walks

Enjoying fresh air, beautiful scenery and walking at a leisurely pace has become one of the most compelling attractions of Sydney.

Walks not-to-miss around Sydney Harbour

  • Harbour Circle This 26km walk takes you on a journey from the Harbour Bridge to Hunters Hill.  You’ll walk along historic streets, across several bridges and through parks and gardens.
  • Federation Walk, Dover Heights to Vaucluse. This two hour, 3km walk follows a spectacular strip of coastline overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Spot small reptiles such as geckos and skinks along the way or see dolphins and whales during the annual migration season.
  • Bondi to Bronte and Coogee Start this 4.5km coastal walk at the south end of Bondi Beach and head south along the coast for ocean views, dramatic sandstone cliffs, beaches, inlets and coves where you can surf, dive, swim and sunbake. You may be lucky enough to glimpse dolphins, whales (in season) and other marine life.
  • Manly to Spit Bridge at Middle Harbour From Manly, pass through bushland, past secluded bays, harbour beaches, lookouts and rainforest on this 9km track. Go swimming or snap panoramas from the endless vantage points.
  • Headland Park, near Balmoral and Mosman Several short walking tracks lead you to secluded beaches and through bushland, to harbour lookouts, cafes and an artist’s colony.
  • Glebe Foreshore Walk Stretching from Bicentennial Park in Glebe to Sydney Fish Markets at Pyrmont, this short walk passes through parklands, past heritage sea walls and stone docks. It’s popular with pedestrians as well as cyclists.

Walks not-to-miss further afield

  • Royal National Park, south of Sydney One of the most accessible walks in Australia's oldest national park is a one- hour walk from Bundeena along Jibbon Beach and the coast to see Aboriginal rock carvings.
  • Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, north of Sydney One of the best walks in this park is from Palm Beach to Barrenjoey. This spectacularly scenic walk takes 1.5 hours with views of Pittwater and a swim at Palm Beach your reward.
  • Sydney’s Great Coastal Walk This seven-day walking adventure, from Barrenjoey on the northern beaches to the Royal National Park south of Sydney, can be split into easy segments. Along the way you’ll see Sydney’s most outstanding natural highlights.
