STAR DANCER

Reporter: TIM CAMPBELL

Do you dream of following in the footsteps of your favourite star and dancing your way through the foxtrot, cha cha and the Viennese waltz? Yes? Well then, this “Dancing with the Stars” dance class is for you!

North Shore Dance Studio has created a ‘Dancing with the Stars’ dance course which will cover the various dance styles that are seen on the show. This class is suitable for beginners as the basics of all styles will be covered, before gradually progressing over the 8 week period.

This 8 week course starts on Saturday 17th March. Class time is 10.00am -11.00am and bookings are essential. You don't need a partner to attend the classes, many people attend without one. Teachers ensure that everyone has the opportunity to dance with someone throughout the class. And it is a great way to meet new people!

The styles that will be covered during the course are:

  • Latin
  • Ballroom
  • Salsa

Latin
Latin dancing consists of the following 5 dances: Samba, Rumba, Cha Cha, Paso Doble and Jive. The Paso Doble and Jive are not of Latin American origin.
Compared to typical ballroom dances, Latin dances are generally faster-paced, more sensual, and have more rhythmic expression. Music may be Latin American traditional or contemporary popular music.

Ballroom
People world-wide are taking a fresh look at the exciting glamour sport of ballroom dancing. No other form of dance offers such variety in rhythm, style and characterisation or is as cross cultural as ballroom dancing.

Teachers at the North Sydney Dance Studio will introduce students to the beauty, passion and excitement of the Ballroom dances with both traditional and contemporary music.
The dances that are required for balls or weddings are covered in this course.
You will learn the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot and Quickstep.

Salsa
Salsa refers to a style of music and dance which has its origins in the Caribbean and South America, but which has developed all over the world, into variations that have created a number of recognized styles.
It is the most popular of a variety of Latin dances and has developed into an international phenomenon which is taking the world by storm!

Salsa is a street Latin dance, making it different from the other Latin dances that are on offer. North Sydney Dance Studio teaches the LA style salsa. This is danced mostly in salsa clubs, and is unique with its rhythm and energy.

For anyone who is after a great way to get fit and stay fit while having a lot of fun, then this is the class.
