Sydney Harbour islands, walks and outdoor fun

Beaches and harbour walks abound in this beautiful harbour city

Sydney is a rare modern city, with an outstanding collection of natural assets at every turn. It’s completely surrounded by national parks – to the north is Kuringai Chase National Park, to the south is Royal National Park and west of the city is the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Greater Blue Mountains Area. Meanwhile, at the heart of the city, is Sydney Harbour, a treasured waterway that’s protected as part of the Sydney Harbour National Park.

Enjoying these natural delights is easy. You can jump on a ferry, take harbour cruise, go kayaking or join a cycling tour that winds its way around the foreshore. Small islands are sprinkled around the harbour, making them perfect for a picnic, enjoying fireworks on special occasions or even camping.

Sydney is a great city to explore by foot – take one of the 16 trails along the harbour foreshore and you’re bound to fall in love with Sydney’s beautiful natural face.
