From mid-May until early August the Humpback Whales pass through Sydney on their migration to their breeding grounds further north. From mid-August until November they return, with their calves, on their Southern Migration.
During this time you may also spot Killer Whales, Pilot Whales and Southern Right Whales, as well as Dolphins and Seals and even the occasional Shark!
Although regulations require boats to stay 100 metres away from the whales, once they cut their engines and sail (an advantage the Obsession has over the larger motor vessels) the whales- which can be very curious - will often swim right up to and alongside the boat, making for some memorable moments.

Whale Watching charters are available during winter and will take you just outside the Heads. The charters are 4 hours minimum, for up to 28 people, and the price starts at $2,000, that’s just over $70 each. This includes the options of learning to sail, taking the helm, snorkelling, swimming and sightseeing etc. |
