Luna Park

Reporter: Sally Obermeder
Remember going to Luna Park when you were little? Well, it’s had a bit of a tumultuous past, but it’s still smiling and so is Sally when she drops in for some serious fun!
Since it first opened in 1935 Luna Park has been a vital part of Sydney’s identity. Luna Park’s mix of favourite rides, new attractions and huge range of entertainment make it the perfect place Just for Fun!
Luna Park is located on one of Sydney’s prime real estate spots, and is a great place just to stroll through. There is no entry fee to Luna Park.
A visit to the reopened Luna Park offers a glimpse of days gone by but also entertains today’s generation. There’s no big dipper, but many of the old rides have been retained and upgraded and many new ones have been added. The new Luna Park is more than just a fun park, it’s also being promoted as an entertainment precinct. Various new entertainment areas are available for hire for functions (eg. Crystal Palace, My clubhouse, The Big Top, The Deck Sydney and Sonar Sydney).

The Rides
- Coney Island - Australia's only authentic 1930s fun house takes everyone back to their childhood. Experience the thrill of riding the Slides, stumbling through Barrels of Fun, tackling Ye Olde Turkey Trot or lasting the distance on the Joy Wheel.
- Carousel - The spectacular antique steam Carousel has taken master craftsmen many years to restore. Be dazzled by the immaculate detail, fabulous lights and romantic carnival music that this ride offers.
- Wild Mouse - originally built on site in 1959. It takes you 15m above the ground while hurling along a 400 metre track in 61 seconds.
- Ferris wheel - this is the trademark Luna Park classic which takes you 40m in to the air where you can soak in one of the best views of Sydney.
- Tango Train - one of the all time favourites rides. It has a disco theme and bright lights, taking you forwards and then backwards at full speed.
- Dodgems - Take on your friends in a crazed race of fun and excitement! Keep a low profile and sneak through the gaps or roar around bumping opponents out of the way as you go.
- Rotor - Ever wanted to be a fly on the wall? Stand in the barrel and be pushed up against the side as this ride spins at speeds 60km/h. Once it reaches full speed, the floor will drop away and you'll be left hanging in mid air.
- Ranger - A futuristic pirate ship, this vessel rocks forwards and backwards, stops upside down and even does a complete 360 degree spin!
- Spider - This breathtaking ride is a big hit with everyone. Enjoy the thrill of being thrown from side to side at fantastic speeds.
- UFO - Spin horizontally faster and faster before soaring 18 metres high in the sky.
- Tumble Bug - One of the most enjoyable rides in the Park, the Tumble Bug will leave you wanting to do cartwheels down the midway.
