We’re lucky enough to live surrounded by water, but you shouldn’t limit yourself to Sydney Harbour when there’s plenty of fun to be had up the coast on beautiful Lake Macquarie.

Curl up in the lap of luxury aboard the Margarita yacht. At 58’ long, this girl’s a beauty that’s just right for stretching out on. Lake Macquarie Sailing Charters will take you for a spin in groups of 12 – 30 but if you it’s just one or two of you, join in a Friday race night to get the wind in your hair and the adrenalin pumping through your veins.

If you like your water activities with a little more splash it’s time to get wet ‘n’ wild by hitting the scurf. If you haven’t heard of it, scurfing is a mix of surfing and skiing and it’s gnarly dude! You step out onto a board on the back of the boat and get pulled along behind. It’s a bit tricky to keep your balance but once you get the knack of it you’ll find it thrilling so it’s well worth having a burl.
Thirsty for more? Hop into the drink for a kayak around the Sand Islands. Meandering around the lake lets you take the time to explore the beautiful Port Macquarie for yourself.

Bluebell Retreat
After a hard day on the water, pull in to dry land and cosy up at Bluebell Retreat. Bluebell is an eco retreat in the middle of Wallarah National Park and because it sits on Lake Macquarie, you won’t find a better location. You can book in as a couple or use the whole house and spread out with your family. The only problem is that once you’ve anchored at Bluebell, shipping the crew out will certainly be a handful!
