Leichhardt may be well known as Little Italy, but Haberfield is quickly closing in on that as it gains a reputation as a Little Little Italy, or as I affectionately call it – Mini Italy.
Based on a shop in Pompei, this is the retail outlet for Paesanella cheese factory in Marrickville.
But it offers much more than the exquisite ricotta, stracchino, bocconcini and mozzarella from the factory which scents the shop with a sweet milky fragrance. The cheeses are smoked, rolled with stuffings, baked and blended and the marscapone and creams are made into wicked sweets including a stunning tiramisu.
Talking to the delightful staff is dangerous as you will surely leave with more than you wanted ... and enjoy every mouthful!

Carpaccio is located on bustling Norton Street in Sydney’s Italian quarter and serves up some of the best Italian regional cuisines and wines.
The large menu includes such delicacies as slow roasted suckling pig; handmade gnocchi served in edible parmesan shells; risotto made with superfine carnaroli rice; and freshly made pasta.
Together with fresh daily seafood such as steamed wild barramundi, Carpaccio will deliver a truly authentic culinary experience. Live music on Friday & Saturday nights as well as Sunday lunch creates an ambience that is unmistakably Italian.
And if you really want to submerse yourself in some Italian culture, cooking classes are held on Monday evenings with master chef Enrico Viscontini.
