Sally’s getting fresh at the EQ Farmers Market and starting the year with a health kick! Heard that one before???
Well now there’s no excuse for bailing on those New Years resolutions! The EQ Farmers Market is held three times a week and with produce this fresh and tasty your resolve will not dissolve!
How good is it to take a basket to the Farmers Market and fill it with tasty, fresh, locally-grown food? The EQ Farmers Market produce includes fruit and vegetables,†eggs, cheese, breads, olives, nuts, chocolates, cakes and pastries and a whole range of gourmet items.
Held on Wednesdays & Saturdays from 10am to 3.30pm the markets have approximately 100 different stalls. Fruit and vegetables are in abundance in the market, including hydroponic and organic produce.
Here are a few of the stalls you will find:
Mayfarm Flowers: Be greeted at the market entrance by a spectacular array of colour, courtesy of Chris May and his team at Mayfarm Flowers. With a reputation for exceptional quality, variety and pricing, they are justifiably proud of their stall and the number of regular customers they attract to the market each week.
Meliora Farm: Meliora Farm specialises in seasonal oranges and avocadoes, with many other citrus varieties available throughout the†various seasons. Helen Roche and her staff†will happily offer samples of†the juicy apple varieties grown on her Adelong farm. Along with her sensational plum, dark cherries and seasonal stone fruits, don’t forget to try Helen’s†mouthwatering fruit pies!
The Cheese Room: With a huge range of cheeses to†select from at the EQ Market, be†sure you stop to sample†The Cheese Room’s local specialty cheeses or†Formaggio Ocello’s selection of imported cheeses, sourced from all regions of Italy. David Borg, their resident goat cheese producer, is involved at all stages of creating his famed Willowbrae Chevre range.
Strudel Baron: If you have a sweet tooth, then the EQ Markets have you covered. The Strudel Baron’s mouth watering strudels, cakes and tarts will keep you coming back for more, while Pat & Stick's ice cream†is†well worth making the trip for.
The Guatemalan Trader: Chocolate lovers can also indulge, selecting from The Guatemalan Trader’s chilli chocolate and chocolate coated coffee beans.
Toby’s Estate & CafÈ East Timor: No market trip is complete without a great coffee and there are two of the best on offer at the EQ. Local company Toby’s Estate is fast gaining a reputation for their smooth†blends, while Ivan and Linda at CafÈ East Timor are always ready with a smile and great cup of their Fair Trade 3 Amigos blend.
Bring the family for a relaxed lunch in the market’s shaded seating area, selecting from international hot foods such as sweet and savoury crepes from Le Creperie, Chorizo rolls from Mojo Picon, delicious Ethiopian pancakes or Turkish Gozleme.
