Rainforest-rich region part of the World Heritage Gondwana Rainforests
Situated almost halfway on the drive between Sydney and Byron Bay, Dorrigo National Park is renowned for the boardwalks (on forest floor and at treetop level) that make the going easy for visitors.
Nearby Dorrigo Rainforest Centre is also a major Gondwana Rainforest interpretation centre. Here you can uncover the secrets of this ancient landscape, how the rainforest evolved and what animals and birds live here.
Walks range from short strolls under the rainforest canopy to longer and more challenging hikes such as the 5km trek to the top of Casuarina Falls. From Never Never picnic area the walk takes you through cool rainforest and eucalypt stands and passing Aboriginal historic sites. Views of McGrath’s Hump and the Great Escarpment are truly breathtaking.
Good accommodation is available at guesthouses and B&Bs on the beautiful Dorrigo plateau and in nearby Bellingen.
