Crescent head

Reporter: Peter Wells

Peter is checking out the legendary break at Crescent Head and staying at Crescent Head Holiday Park.

The point break off the Big Nobby headland at Crescent Head - a village about 19km south-east of Kempsey on the NSW mid-coast - is famous among wave surfers throughout the world.

In fact, the surfing doesn’t get much better than around here, especially when, for most of the year, there are long stretches of golden sand that you won’t have to share with anyone.

Anglers, too, are drawn to the surf and estuarine fishing. From the crest of 100m high Crescent Head you can almost see forever, with coastal views stretching over marine parkland to Hat Head in the north and to Point Plomer to the south.

Vacationers looking for a tranquil corner of the world where they can surf, swim fish and explore to their heart's content might have to back-track to reach Crescent Head, but they won't be disappointed by an area that is one of the best-kept secrets on the NSW coast.

The surf at Crescent Head Beach is legendary and it is home to the annual Crescent Head Malibu Classic longboard event. There is fantastic beach, rock, estuary and even deep sea fishing to be enjoyed by both the casual and keen angler.

Crescent Head Learn To Surf School

Crescent Head Holiday Park

The Crescent Head Holiday Park is probably one of the best sited parks on the coast with its beachfront location and close proximity to all the activities the area has to offer. There are two sections of the park to choose from: Lakeside and Surfside. The beach is patrolled in summer, while Killick Creek offers clean, safe swimming for all ages.

The host of activities to be enjoyed are all right on your doorstep. The Crescent Head Holiday Park adjoins the tennis courts, bowling green, golf course and skateboard ramp. There’s a well equipped playground for the children to enjoy. So… park your car, kick off your shoes and relax!
