Why go there
Coogee is largely protected from big swells by the picturesque Wedding Cake Island, which means it’s one of Sydney’s most family-friendly beaches.
It’s also lined with great bars, cafes and accommodation, putting it amongst the city’s most vibrant stretches of sand.
Coogee has the highest density of ocean swimming pools in Sydney, with four to choose from, five if you count the all-women McIver’s Baths.
The beach’s shaded northern slopes are ideal for picnics and Grant Reserve, while its hilltop playground is perfect for families.
